From 19 to 30 October 2026, the Republic of Armenia will host the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17) in Yerevan. The conference will bring together government representatives from around the world, international organisations, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, young people, the scientific community and the private sector.
COP17 will take place alongside the twelfth meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-12) and the sixth meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilisation (NP-MOP-6).
The conference comes at a significant point in international efforts to address biodiversity loss. It will provide an opportunity for countries to review collective progress towards implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted in 2022, and assess progress towards its 23 targets. Discussions will focus on implementation, international cooperation and the action needed to meet global biodiversity commitments by 2030.
As host country, Armenia will provide a platform for international dialogue and cooperation, bringing together governments and stakeholders to discuss shared priorities and the implementation of global commitments.
For Armenia, hosting COP17 represents an important opportunity to engage with the international community on issues of global environmental importance and to strengthen its role in multilateral cooperation.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to deepen engagement between Armenia and its international partners, including the United Kingdom, on shared environmental priorities and the implementation of international commitments.
